Description:Summary: Plan, organize and direct the Home�s fundraising efforts, creating campaigns and programs to meet The Jewish Home�s expanded service needs, capital requirements, and Resident and Client programs. Work under the general direction of the JHE Foundation�s Board and administratively report to the Home�s President & CEO. There shall be a yearly collaboration between the Home�s President & CEO and the Chairperson of the JHE Foundation to evaluate the Vice President & Chief Development Officer�s performance.

Duties:Essential Responsibilities:
1. Direct and supervise all JHE Foundation activities and assigned personnel. Develop standards of performance. Select, train/orient staff, evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions including merit increases, promotions and disciplinary actions.

2. Develop annual Foundation budget. Ensure that Foundation operates within approved budget. Prepare records and reports required for Jewish Home and JHE Foundation Boards, and for administrative and regulatory purposes.

3. Develop short and long range goals and objectives for fundraising with applicable timeliness and methodology for achievement. Develop Annual Marketing Plan in concert with Community Relations Coordinator. Identify prospects, cultivate and solicit major gifts. Train corps of lay leaders to facilitate successful fundraising. Serve as primary staff liaison to the Foundation Board and supervise Coordinator, Auxiliaries in his/her work with the Women�s Auxiliary, Men�s Club, President of Grasmere, Annual Campaign and such other fundraising organizations and committees.

4. Plan, organize and direct the development of gifts and special funds from philanthropic corporations, trusts and individuals. Develop and recommend goals and objectives for Foundation fundraising, implementing campaigns, techniques and department policies to achieve such goals. Evaluate changing trends in philanthropy, tax and estate planning regulations to develop new programs responsive to the fundraising needs of the Home. Evaluate department performance in relation to established goals. Implement changes to improve services.

5. Conduct research and maintain records on gift potential of foundations, corporations and individuals. Maintain current mailing lists of corporations, foundations, donors and prospects and develop a system for voluntary solicitation of all family members of residents. Keep advised of specific philanthropic organization�s requirements and potential for giving. Research and submit proposals for grants and special funding.

6. Design and implement fundraising campaigns using techniques of direct mail solicitation, personal solicitation, benefit events, involvement of business organizations, appeals of philanthropic organizations and planned giving through estate planning, bequests, trusts, etc. Develop and design letterheads, correspondence, brochures and other materials to solicit gifts. Coordinate with other departments of the Home to identify and solicit donors.

7. Organize and attend fundraising benefits for the Home, assisting sponsoring agencies with campaigns and functions.

8. Ensure receipt, acknowledgment and allocation of gifts according to the requirements of the IRS and the donor, working closing with Foundation Consultants, Auditor and Finance Department. Implement computerized mailing lists and gift tracking systems. Prepare department records and reports, preparing annual development reports as needed. Maintain pledge reminder and billing system as appropriate. Assist in contract development and assure that all contracts carry required signatures according to established policy. Coordinate all donor and recipient acknowledgement within three working days of receipt. Coordinate plaque purchases, mounting, donor notification and system identifying donors with plaque locations.

9. Maintain regular contact with solicitors. Identify new prospects and coordinate special fundraising events at the Home or in respective communities; coordinate scheduled Home tours and visitations by prospective donors; meet with prospects independently or in concert with lay leadership and/or the President & CEO. Create and maintain files on each identified major prospect to include biography, giving history, proposed goal, frequency and type of contact, actual gift and honorial/memorial commitment, if applicable.

10. Be primary staff liaison to the Investment Committee assuring timely meetings, reports and signed agreements with Investment Manager(s) and Consultants. Send notices of all JHE Foundation and Investment Committee meetings and provide for the taking of and approval of all minutes. In coordination with the Home�s President & CEO, Chairperson of the Board of the JHE Foundation and Chairperson of the Board of the Home, plan sponsoring organization�s Annual Meeting and events.

11. Ensure timely billing of all pledges. Recognize the voluntary nature of these gifts and abide by all laws and policies of the Home. Develop a system for collections. Provide the Chairperson of the Foundation Board and President & CEO with a report on actions on pledges to donors within three working days.

12. Perform other related duties as required or requested.
Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Work requires knowledge of development approaches, vehicles for giving, and effective organization management techniques and practices. Work, in addition, requires the exercise of good communication, writing and interpersonal skills. Equivalent to a BS degree in business administration or finance.

Experience: Duties require 10 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferable Development experience in the health care field.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Establish personal standards of performance within broad framework of policy and objectives as set forth by the Foundation�s Board of Directors and the President & CEO. Seek required approvals and make major program recommendations to the President & CEO and the Foundation Board of Directors.

Provide supervision to all Foundation personnel and direction to the Auxiliary, Men�s Club, other sponsoring organizations and committees as delineated under job duties.
